My Little One and I have to examine every possible alternative while making a decision. When armed with a catalog of styles and choices for a high school class ring, the decision can take hours. Here’s a little peek into the fun.

LO: Wait, I know I wanted the ring with the heart shapes on the side, but that doesn’t really look like a class ring.

Me: Yeah, I guess.

LO: Besides, then I can’t put emblems on the side.

Me: You want emblems? Which ones? (Crossing out the “Lovely Princess style 2 j” on her order form)

LO: Here. I want the one for drama.

Me: You were never in drama.

LO: I know, but I could be. I could join next year.

Me: What if you don’t? Well, OK, you are in acting class.

LO: Yeah, but is it fake to have a drama emblem if I don’t join the team?

Me: I think you should put what you want on your ring. How about “honors”; you’ve been in honors classes since Junior High.

LO: Oh yeah, nothing says “geek” like an honors emblem.

Me: (ignoring the sarcasm) How about the “journalism” pen? So you aren’t a journalist, but you’ve been writing since you were five.

LO: How about the “rock n roll” emblem?

Me: Well, if someone looks at that emblem and asks you what rock band you’re in, what are you going to tell them?

LO: That the emblem looks cool.

Me: Hm.

LO: OK, fine. I’ll get the honors emblem. Wait, do I want that or do I want the ring with the hearts on the side?

I didn’t get a class ring in high school. Would it be fake if I ordered one now? If I did, which school should I represent?

  1. The school that I went to from K-11;
  2. The school that I went to for the majority of my senior year;
  3. The school that I went to for one class, who issued my diploma; or
  4. Some cool school that I wish I graduated from, like Ridgemont High?
